18th Anniversary of the Enthronement of Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians

With All Your Heart

There is a misconception in our world today that you have to agree with someone in order to like and respect him or her. We divide ourselves into cliques of belief, unwavering from our loyalty to an idea. We adore arguments and glorify grudges. Though these divisions are all too common today, allowing them to rule our lives will slowly chip away at our humanity.

In a world that savors discord, it is all the more important that we show people wild mercy, even in the face of disagreement. We are called to love in all things, not just when it is convenient for us. May God’s constant compassion for us inspire us to act thoughtfully, mercifully, and harmoniously.

In closing, reflect on the words of St. Gregory of Narek from his Book of Lamentations:
But for you, the creator of the soul and body, all is illumined, all is clear, all is written, all is easy, all is possible, wisdom leads, promises are kept, wishes are fulfilled. Your testament is the gospel. Your judgment is freedom. Your lawbook is grace. You are not limited by laws. You are not bound by canons. You are not hampered by imperfections. You are not humbled by obedience. You are not restricted by smallness. You are not measured by boundaries. You do not err out of anger. You do not alter out of wrath. You do not misjudge out of severity. You do not simmer out of agitation. You do not falter out of ignorance. You do not waver out of soft-heartedness. You do not diminish out of exaltation. You do not abandon your duty of care. You do not weaken your salvation. You are the beginning and the end of all. Everything is from you alone. Therefore glory to you and worship forever. Amen. (Prayer 43B)

SCRIPTURE AND SHNORHALI REDUX: Our Adult Christian Education (ACE) ministry is pleased to announce another opportunity for our faithful to examine the writings of St. Nersess Shnorhali (the Grace-filled), one of the most beloved and celebrated saints of the Armenian Church. If you missed the introductory series back in July, don’t fret; that series was not a pre-requisite. We will meet at church on three consecutive Tuesday mornings from 10:00 to 11:30 beginning on November 6. Participants will discover the many biblical images and references that come alive in his work—most especially his popular hymns. Our guides will be Fr. Hakob Gevorgyan (who will be singing for us!) and Deacon Albert Keshgegian. We urge you to take advantage of this unique program and, as always, we encourage you to bring a friend. To register, contact Nancy Basmajian at 215-722-3369 or nancybasmajian@verizon.net. Flyers are available in the narthex and the church lobby.

FAR UPDATE: A few months ago eight-year-old Syuzi found a new home in a foster family when Anichka Grigoryan, 46, a mother of four and a grandmother of four, decided to open her heart to another child. “It was my wish and desire to take care of another kid so that she could be raised in a real family,” Anichka explained. Before moving in with the family, Syuzi lived at Vanadzor Orphanage. The FAR Children’s Center, which helped to establish Armenia’s foster care system beginning in 2005, helped to facilitate the foster family process for Anichka. As part of its latest project aimed at assisting children from orphanages, the Center has placed a total of 12 children in foster homes since the start of the year, another of them also being Syuzi’s brother, Sevak, 10. Using the Pew Book: In order to enrich understanding of the Divine Liturgy, we encourage our faithful to follow along in the large two-part Pew Book. Part One includes the classical Armenian used in the Liturgy; the facing page is the translation in modern Western Armenian. Part Two contains the transliteration of the classical Armenian; the right-hand page has the English translation. This Pew Book includes the prayers of the celebrant usually offered inaudibly. The prayers offered aloud are indicated in boldface type.

THE NICENE CREED/ HAVADAMK – This is the Profession of our Faith which is recited every Sunday moments after the Gospel is read from the altar. Sometimes it is sung, but more often it is recited by the Deacons and/or the Choir. We invite you to affirm your own “Profession of Faith” by reciting along with us. God longs for all of us to express our faith and devotion to Him.

THE KISS OF PEACE: After the gifts of the Eucharist are brought to the Altar Table, the deacon proclaims, “Greet one another with a holy kiss.” The person giving the greetings says, Kristos ee mech mer Haydnetsav – Christ is revealed amongst us. The recipient would respond, Orhnial eh Haydnootiunun Kristosee – Blessed is the revelation of Christ.

Anyone who wishes to request any Requiem Services MUST inform the office by 1:30pm Wednesday the week before. If you also want to sponsor the Fellowship Hour you MUST call Merle Santerian at 215-947-3777.
