Paregentan of the Fast of the Holy Cross of Varak
THE SUNDAY MESSENGER
September 18, 2016
Paregentan of the Fast of the Holy Cross of Varak
Eve of the Fast of the Holy Cross of Varaga
This is the Sunday proceeding the week prior to the feast of the Appearance of the Holy Cross on the Mount Varaga, lasting from Monday to Friday. Being hidden by St. Hripisime on the Mount Varaga, the relic of the Lord’s Wooden Cross was found by a miracle in the 7th century and the Armenian Apostolic Church established another purely national feast dedicated to the Holy Cross, which is famous as the Holy Cross of Varaga.
TODAY’S BIBLE READINGS:
- 2 Corinthians 10: 18-11:10 (page 168) New Testament
- Mark 10: 1-12 (page 42) New Testament – (Please follow the Armenian Reading in your Bible)
REQUIEM SERVICES: Karasoonk (40th Day memorial Service) today will be for:
- REV. FR. VERTANES KALAYJIAN on the 40th day of His eternal life requested by Diocese of the Armenian Church.
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (James 5:16b). Please remember in your prayers: the St. Garabed parishioners and all the victims of the flooding in Baton Rouge, healing for Janice Boyajian Pinkerton and Anita Mirijanian; law enforcement officers who have been killed or injured in the line of duty; those killed in the many terrorist attacks in gatherings here and abroad and their families who are suffering their loss; comfort for the bereaved among us; for the current unrest in Armenia; all those affected by the ongoing conflict in Artsakh – families whose loved ones were killed and the injured as they try to recover; and all who are persecuted for their faith and forced from their homes during these perilous times.
FELLOWSHIP HOUR: NO FELLOWSHIP HOUR TODAY DUE TO THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY BANQUET. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR.

All our programming is free of charge, and we encourage our faithful to bring along a friend.

THE NICENE CREED/ HAVADAMK – This is the Profession of our Faith which is recited every Sunday moments after the Gospel is read from the altar. Sometimes it is sung, but more often it is recited by the Deacons and/or the Choir. We invite you to affirm your own “Profession of Faith” by reciting along with us.
