Obituary Notice – Shant Kapeghian
Shant John Kapeghian, 60 entered his eternal rest suddenly on June 10, 2024 in London, England while vacationing and watching his beloved Phillies.
Shant was born on November 18,1963 as Shant John Takavorian in Baghdad, Iraq. His biological parents passed when he was just 5 years old, leaving him, his sister, and brother as orphans. His grandfather, the brother-in-law of the late Maritza Cholakian (Naomi’s mother), cared for them well into his 80’s. Then in 1969, Maritza visited her brother-in-law and when she returned, had a thorough conversation with Albert and Naomi. She explained that her brother-in-law was aging and asked Albert and Naomi if they would possibly consider adopting Shant (as he was so young). In 1973, after years of red tape, Shant, a 9 year old boy, arrived at JFK airport all alone, and was greeted by his new family. Soon after, he became a U.S. citizen and formally adopted as Shant John Kapeghian.
Shant was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Naomi Kapeghian. He is lovingly survived by his siblings, Janice (Robert) King, Barbara (Thomas) Harmon and Mark (Lisa) Kapeghian. His nieces and nephew, Alyssa (Phillip) Worrell, Scott King, Jaclyn King (Kyle Blalock), Kelly Fischer (JR), Julie Kapeghian (Tam Phan). And great nephews Timothy and Matthew Worrell as well as many family members and friends.
Funeral services will be announced at a later date. In-lieu-of-flower donations to Holy Trinity Armenian Church will be greatly appreciated in memory of Shant.
God bless the memory and bring comfort to the family.
