Church School
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
First established in 1942 as the Holy Trinity Sunday School, it currently functions as a “Church School” with two schools in one, offering children and youth a variety of classes in Armenian language and Christian education. The school year begins in mid-September and ends in early June.
Our mission is to:
- Convey to our students all aspects of the faith-tradition and experiences of the Armenian Church: this includes Scripture (most especially the life of Christ), worship (both corporate and private), sacraments, theology and history;
- Provide our students with opportunities for participation in the Divine Liturgy;
- Promote community and friendship among students and Church School families;
- Nurture and affirm students as children of God;
- Enable students to develop a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ;
- Model Christian behavior and love of God.
- Expose students to the Armenian language and create a love of their Mother tongue.
Christian Education: Infants and toddlers to age 2 are welcome to our Little Sprouts program where nurturing and loving adults supervise activities in a colorful and engaging atmosphere. More formal educational programs are available for Preschoolers, elementary-age, Middle School and High School students. Our specifically designed and professional Christian education curriculum comes to us from the Christian Education Department of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America. A nominal registration fee is required for all students except those enrolled in our Little Spouts program.
Language Education: Classes began in October 2010. Initiated and directed by Yn. Anna Gevorgyan, who designed the curriculum and the entire program; she also recruits and trains a qualified staff of volunteers. During the class hour, students learn and enjoy the Armenian language. Classes include a kindergarten for 2-4 year-olds, first grade for 4-8 year-olds, fourth grade 9-12 year- olds and fifth grade 13-16 year-olds. At this time, we have an enrollment of thirty students. Both Eastern and Western Armenian is taught.
